House of Flame and Shadow (Crescent City Book 3), by Sarah J. Maas

The story picks up with Bryce Quinlan, who's now stuck in a world far from Midgard. I felt her desperation to return to everything familiar – her family, friends, and her mate. The way Maas portrays Bryce's struggle in this unfamiliar setting is gripping. You can't help but root for her as she tries to navigate a world where trust is a luxury.

Then there's Hunt Athalar. His part of the story is equally intense. Trapped again in the Asteri's dungeons, his sense of helplessness and urgency to find Bryce is palpable. I found myself sympathizing with his situation, feeling the weight of his frustration and longing.

The book isn't just about their individual challenges; it's about how their paths intertwine and the fate of their world hangs in the balance. Maas does a fantastic job of building this tension throughout the book. Every chapter adds another layer to their story, making it hard to put the book down.

House of Sky and Breath (Crescent City Book 2), by Sarah J. Maas

After their recent heroics, Bryce Quinlan and Hunt Athalar are yearning for some peace and a return to normalcy. Yet, the world around them is far from calm. The oppressive Asteri's control is threatened by tenacious rebels, drawing Bryce, Hunt, and their friends into the turmoil. Faced with the choice of passive acquiescence or courageous resistance, they are reminded of the age-old struggle between oppression and justice.

Reflecting on my personal immersion in the series, this sequel to House of Earth and Blood masterfully portrays a world teetering on the edge, and the brave souls determined to keep it from falling apart.

Conclusion

I started reading Sarah J. Maas back in 2014, and I've been hooked ever since. Based on reviews and awards, these books are some of her best. Some are standalone, while others are part of a series. It's not necessary to read the whole series to get the gist, but reading them in order does help things click. So, if you're up for a good fantasy and magic tale, give them a go.
